Beginning Quiltmaking 1 of 7

Do you want to learn how to make a quilt top with your sewing machine or sharpen your basic skills?  Join us for the Beginning Quilt Making class.  In this class we make a sampler quilt top of 9 different blocks.  We use Lori Holt’s “Farm Girl Vintage” book for our class.  The topics that are covered include:  how to select fabric, accurate seam allowance, rotary cutting, most commonly used piecing techniques, and finishing.  No prework is required.  We will discuss fabric selection and required tools in the first class.

Braided Twist Tablerunner

The Beauty of the Braided Twist is its simplicity!  No Quilting, No Binding, No Handwork!  How?…The magic is in the hidden center seam!!  You just twist!      Sound intriguing?  Come in and see the store sample and you’ll want to try it yourself.  Can be used with Holiday fabrics or everyday decor.  Once you figure out how easy is is, you’ll want to make them for Christmas gifts!

Collage Quilts

If you are looking for a change of pace, come and try making a collage quilt. We will be “Making Fish” (or making moose, making cat, you get the drift!) following the patterns by Laura Heine. If you are making the fish collage, you can make fish into placemats like we have done, or you can make even more fish for a runner, topper, wall hanging or quilt. If you have a different Laura Heine collage pattern we will help you with that as well and you will learn the steps to launch you on your own creative collage journey! Kits for Making Fish like the store sample and other projects are available.

Deb Tucker Ruler Lab

If you have not used a Deb Tucker ruler you are in for a treat.  The TuckerTrimmer takes the frustration out of making half-square triangles, combined square triangles, and quarter square triangles.  Using the Wing Clipper, your flying geese units will be perfect.  I believe De Tucker rulers are some of the best rulers and mastering these two rulers gives you a great start to eliminating a lot of the frustrations in block construction.

Machine Quilting

Too many quilt tops and not enough time? Tired of machine quilting “in the ditch”? Well, drop those feed dogs and take off with all the lovely quilting stencils that you really want to use. This hands-on class will focus on freehand quilting with information and demonstrations of quilting with a darning foot, nylon thread and various other specialty threads. Proper techniques for quilting full sized quilts will also be discussed. Students must know how to remove, cover or lower feed dogs and must have a darning foot

Diamonds in the Sky

The blocks in this quilt give an alternating diamond illusion.  With the Corner Beam ruler, you’ll quickly cut the needed shapes from strips and squares.  The ruler makes it easy to achieve perfect points.  Choose a light or dark background to create a brilliant high contrast quilt.  We’ll make four corner beam units and sew them together in one block to get you started on this beautiful quilt.  Fabric kits like the store sample are available.

Twister Tool Lab

Have you been admiring the projects that use the popular Twister tools?  Learn this fun technique while working on your favorite project.  Choose a quilt, table runner, tote bag, or other project and join us for a day of fun.
