Alternatives to Binding

In this class we will explore alternative ways to finish a small quilt, instead of a binding.  Many art quilts and modern quilts are finished without a binding in a style that looks more like modern art ready to hang in a gallery.  In this class we will cover 2 finishes – wrapping a quilt around a canvas frame or finishing with a facing.  If time permits we will discuss more than one method for a facing finish.  Grab a couple of extra blocks, small panels small quilts, and we will work on finishes that turn them into art!

Diamonds in the Sky

The blocks in this quilt give an alternating diamond illusion.  With the Corner Beam ruler, you’ll quickly cut the needed shapes from strips and squares.  The ruler makes it easy to achieve perfect points.  Choose a light or dark background to create a brilliant high contrast quilt.  We’ll make four corner beam units and sew them together in one block to get you started on this beautiful quilt.
